Transportation and Handling: Transport at room temperature, refrigerated at 2-8°C on receipt at the laboratory.
Special Precautions: Chloramphenicol is degraded by light; please ensure the samples are protected from direct sunlight. Samples should be transported as quickly as possible to the department so sample stability is not compromised. Samples must be referred within 5 days of being taken. Timing of samples: It is recommend a pre dose sample and a post dose sample, taken 2 hours after the end of either iv administration or oral administration. Clinical Summary is required on the sample request
Time limits for requesting additional examinations: Serum samples stored in the department for approximately 6 weeks after processing, . Tests can only be added to samples already received by Virology.
